Large vapor cloud explosions (VCEs) are one of the most dangerous and high-consequence events that can occur at petrochemical facilities, if the deflagration transitions to detonation (DDT), the explosion can be orders of magnitude larger.

Gexcon presented novel large-scale DDT tests performed on rigs up to 1,500 m3 (50,000 ft3) that was presented at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas 2-5 May 2016 ( "Addressing the Pressing Needs of Offshore Ultradeepwater Floating Facilities and Risers section"
